For decades, Assumption education in Butterworth stood as a pillar of academic excellence and character formation. Guided by dedicated educators and rooted in strong moral values, the school nurtured young minds to grow not only in knowledge, but also in integrity, compassion, and responsibility.
Classrooms were places of discipline and discovery. Fields and halls echoed with friendship, competition, and shared experiences. Teachers served not only as instructors, but as mentors and role models who influenced lives far beyond graduation.
A community shaped by shared experiences
Assumption education fostered bonds that extended well beyond academic life. Lifelong friendships were formed through shared challenges, achievements, sports, discipline, and everyday moments that shaped identity and values.
For many alumni, the school was not simply a place of learning — it was a formative environment that shaped outlook, character, and a lifelong sense of belonging.
The end of an era — but not the end of the spirit
In January 2022, the original Assumption school in Butterworth closed its doors, marking the end of an era that had profoundly influenced generations of students and families.
Yet while the physical institution ceased operations, the spirit of Assumption did not disappear. It lived on in the memories, relationships, and values carried forward by its alumni.
Assumption International Secondary School
In 2023, hope was renewed with the establishment of Assumption International Secondary School, Bukit Mertajam. This rebirth was made possible through a landmark tripartite collaboration between the Titular Roman Catholic Bishop of Penang, the Assumption Butterworth Alumni Association (ABAA), and Wings International Education Group Sdn. Bhd.
Located on church land that once housed St Anne’s Church, the new school represents continuity, renewal, and forward vision. It preserves the Assumption name and spirit while embracing a global educational outlook suited to the present and future.
Bridging past and future
ABAA serves as a bridge between past and future — preserving heritage while supporting the continued growth of Assumption education. The Association helps safeguard memory, maintain alumni connections, and contribute to the continued success of the school community.
Heritage carried forward through people
Heritage is not preserved only in archives. It lives through people, relationships, stories, values, and action. Every reunion, contribution, photo, memory, and act of service keeps the Assumption spirit alive.
As new generations pass through Assumption International Secondary School, this legacy continues to grow, adapt, and inspire.
